John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
14:2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
14:4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
There was trouble in the disciples' heart. Judas left, and they were about to lost their teacher. It was just like Sun goes down in the day time. The miserable death of the Lord was already determined, but the disciples didn't know that.
Among this heavy, dark atmosphere, the Lord said "Do not let your hearts be troubled". This was the comfort of Jesus who was facing His death. This deep love toward His disciples was beyond every situation even the death. The Lord is the one who always comforts us, encourages us until the end.
How can we overcome anxiety and worries and enjoy the peace? The Lord said "You believe in God; believe also in me". There is true peace in this belief. Actually, His situation was just as Matthew 26:31 and Zechariah 13:7 which say "'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered." Even in this tragedy, the Shepherd comforted His sheep. If we have any trials or difficulty, let us remember this word and enter into the peace through relying on God.
For Jesus, His death was to go back to "His Father's house". Normally, the death is sadness, lose, desperation. But Jesus overcame the power of the death by His faith toward the heaven. Likewise, we can carry the cross through the hope of heaven. In Christ, the life is of heaven whether he is dead or alive.
Also, the death was "to prepare a place" for His disciples. The value of life depends on how the person would die. Even the death of the Lord was for them to prepare. Jesus said He dies first to meet them later in the better place; this gave warm comfort to them like a mom.
Let us hold on this message of love and comfort every moment, and follow His way with hope of heaven step by step. May we also have this heart of great love of Christ.
