"for the praise of his glory"

Dec 05, 2016 06:20 AM EST

Ephesus 1:5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--
1:6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
1:12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.

This is the epistle of Apostle Paul towards Ephesus Church. As you can see in the Book of Acts, Paul shepherded Ephesus Church with tears and all of efforts for three years. Then, there was one thing Paul wanted to emphasize to them above all. It was that "he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will".

1:4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love

Paul says here the predestination was even before the creation. Before the beginning, He already predestined us, and chose us. Even though there are many difficulties and troubles, we should remember that it is God who is always leading our path and also is going to complete our life. This is the basic foundation of our faith.

1:5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--
1:6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.

It says "he has freely given us". It is not that we gained because of our deeds or any condition. We became able to call God "Abba Father" by the sacrifice and serving of Christ without any charge; this is such an amazing grace. We should not forget that we are living by that abundance of grace. Why does God pour His mercy unlimitedly upon these shameful, terrible sinners?

1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
1:12 in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.

The Bible tells us that is "according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will". Even before the creation, before we exist, God has wanted us to be His glory from the beginning until the end. We are in His eternal, beautiful plan. Let us meditate on God's will and plan toward us deeply, and try to become the praise of glory for Him.
